Poem: "Guadalupe" by Maryann Beckman

Down Tepeyac Hill he hurried
To meet his Lord in holy bread
But the Lord had other plans for him
He would meet the Lady instead.

She looked at him and smiled,
Divine love allowed him to see
With eyes unashamed and unfettered
He beheld the true reality.

They gazed upon each other
The woman and her little son
They had not been forgotten
No, she came for everyone.

Why did the queen of heaven
Come down to where love grows?
To give hope to all people –
With a message and a rose.

For a moment the veil was lifted
For Mexico and for man
To remind them of the covenant
Made with the great I AM.

Her love reminds us of the sacrifice
Her baby gave so all could be
United with her, all the faithful
And her son in eternity.

Let us not forget Guadalupe
Let us remember that Day
Viva Maria Y
Viva Christo Rey!
