Poem: "Voice" by (From Disappearances; Poems by Herbert Mason KNP Publications, London & New York 1999. P. 19)

I heard a voice:
From ancient jaws
The sound of loss
The sound of pain
Too long possessed,
A brother’s voice
Heard from afar

The sound of waves
Against this shore;
the weakened voice,
a silence here.
When no sound comes
More terrible the hush
And silence than the loss.
